A Year of Accomplishments

With GTC2010 wrapped up and with today being the 1 year anniversary of the CULA launch, we the CULA team wanted to reflect on a year of accomplishments. We've constantly improved CULA over this time not only in features and performance but we've also worked hard to make CULA easier to get and use. We've announced partnerships with several awesome vendors who've integrated CULA into their products and others who are distributing CULA to an increasingly wide net of users.

We've got even bigger plans in this coming year, some of which have been announced and some that haven't! Look forward to CULA 2.2 for the realization of these plans, but in the meantime, enjoy reading about some of the highlights of this past year.

Defense, Security, and Sensing Symposium 2011

We will be at SPIE's Defense, Security, and Sensing Symposium in April 2011 discussing and displaying CULA and other EM Photonics technologies. Our own Eric Kelmelis will be chairing the conference on Modeling and Simulation, which has featured GPU technology papers for several years.  If you're interested in participating, please visit http://www.spie.org/ds219 to upload a submission by October 11.  At this stage only titles and a 250-word abstract are required.  Hope to see you there!

Today is the last day of the NVIDIA GPU Technology conference and the CULA team could not be any happier about how the show went.

First, let me share our general impression about this year's event.  While not as intimate as the previous one, we enjoyed the larger venue and the spacious exhibit hall.  This new format made it easy to circulate and hold meetings with our friends at NVIDIA and our partners as well.

Our booth was strategically located right next to the Men's room, but it was the GE Magic1 rugged computer displayed on our table that attracted a large crowd and sparked some great conversations about the work we've been doing in the military space. A lot of people came by to grab a CUDA training flyer and ask questions about what is coming down the pike for CULA and the sparse project.

We had a packed room at our first presentation, GPU Technology for Military Applications, and while we can't share the presentation here, if you would like to learn more about it, visit our EM Photonics site.

Our talk on CULA was also very well attended and there will be another post here later sharing some of the cool stuff our engineers are doing to take it to the next level.  Stay tuned! :-)

After attending the keynote presentations and many of the talks, it became clear: the GPU technology trend has caught on and has significantly impacted how the scientific community is advancing their research work today.  In summary, GPUs for general purpose computing is no longer just 'talk'... it's 'action'  and it is happening NOW.   (and we love it!)
